The “Global Forum / Shaping the Future” www.items-int.com is an annual, independent, international and invitation-only event dedicated to business and policy issues that affect the successful evolution of the Information Society. It is a not-for-profit initiative of Items International and the Sophia Antipolis Foundation.
Since its inception in 1992, the Global Forum brings together international key actors and experts from advanced economies - the USA, Canada, Western Europe and Asia - and increasingly from developing countries, including countries of the Mediterranean fringe of Europe, countries upgrading their telecommunications infrastructure, such as Russia and the Central and Eastern European countries, and Mexico in the sphere of NAFTA.
The “Global Forum / Shaping the Future” provides a neutral platform for the identification of representative trends, the discussion of latest developments in the ICT sector and divergent points of views. The expertise of its speakers selected from the ICT industry, regulators and implementing agencies illustrates the complexity of the ICT landscape and contributes to a solid contemporary knowledge base.
As a high profile and international think tank bringing together government, business and civil society, the Global Forum acts as a catalyst for a wide range of communications applications. It supports the creation of synergies between suppliers and users of communications applications and assists in connecting practical applications and innovative ideas. The Global Forum provides the ideal opportunity for its participants to jointly develop imaginative solutions in partnership during formal and informal face-to-face discussions during the days of the event and afterwards by electronic networking.
The “Global Forum / Shaping the Future” is sponsored by organisations around the world, interested in sharing and influencing global IT agendas, and enabling business and government leaders from all sectors of the Information & Communication Technology (ICT) communities to meet and work with suppliers and service providers.
Each year, the “Global Forum / Shaping the Future” succeeds in bringing together the diverse expertise of more than 300 high-profile delegates, including both industrial leaders and senior policy makers, from more than 40 countries. After 16 years of networking, the Global Forum is today much more than just another ICT-conference, but a real networking event connecting practical applications and innovative ideas – and first and foremost people. The warm and creative atmosphere of the Forum provides best conditions for people to get and to work together and to establish new partnerships, collaborations and other valuable contacts. The fact that many leaders stay beyond their speaking slots, listen intently to others speakers, and participate actively in hallway conversations provides evidence that this concept is successful.
